It’s called a drawstring because you draw, or pull, the cord to tighten an opening. The cord runs through a channel in a hoodie, waistband, or bag, and pulling it helps adjust the fit.

• Common uses: hoodies, sweatpants, shorts, jackets, and bags.
• On this page, you’ll see flat cotton cords, round cords (some with stretch), and options with end tips or cord locks.
• End tips help prevent fraying and make threading easier, while cord locks or toggles let you set tension without tying.

Choosing a style that matches your original channel can make installation easier and provide a cleaner look. Results can vary by garment design.

1. Pick a replacement cord that fits your channel. Many hoodies use flat cords; lengths around 51 to 55 inches are common, but checking your original can help.
2. Attach the new cord to a threader tool (many kits include one) or a safety pin.
3. Feed the tool into the channel at one eyelet and guide it through slowly. Avoid forcing it around seams.
4. Optional: slide on a cord lock or toggle for adjustable hold.
5. Finish the ends by tying knots or using included metal end tips.

These steps can help with most hoodies, though channel width and fabric thickness vary. Working patiently and matching the cord to your garment can improve results.

Yes. You’ll often see them called drawstring cords, drawcords, or hoodie strings. For pants, some listings say waist ties. The name can vary by how and where the cord is used.

• Flat drawstring cord: commonly used in hoodies and waistbands for a low-profile look.
• Round cord or elastic cord: used in apparel and some shoes or bags.
• Replacement drawstrings: general term for pre-cut cords sold for repairs.

Accessories like cord locks or toggles are separate components that adjust tension, and end tips or caps protect the ends. Browsing by shape and material can help you find the right match.

They’re commonly referred to as tips or end caps. Many replacement cords come with metal tips already attached, and some kits include separate tips you can add yourself. These help prevent fraying and make threading through a channel easier.

• End tips or caps: metal or plastic pieces that finish the cord ends.
• Cord locks, stoppers, or toggles: sliding pieces that let you adjust and hold tension without tying.

You can find cords with pre-attached tips, as well as assortments of cord locks and stoppers on this page. Choosing the right combination depends on your garment and how you like to adjust the fit.

Length depends on the garment and how you prefer to tie it. Checking the original cord is a helpful starting point.

• Hoodies: many replacements run about 51 to 55 inches, giving room for ties.
• Sweatpants or shorts: measure your waist channel and add extra length for knots or bows.
• Kits by the yard: rolls (for example, 5 to 27 yards) let you cut custom lengths.

It’s usually better to start slightly long, test the fit, then trim and finish the ends with knots or included tips. Sizes and needs vary by style and size, so adjustments may be needed for comfort and look.
