A rotating compost bin, also called a compost tumbler, makes composting easier by letting you turn your compost with a simple spin. Most models have one or two chambers where you add yard waste and kitchen scraps. Turning the bin mixes the materials, helping air circulate and speeding up the breakdown process. This design can help reduce odors and keep pests out, making it a convenient option for home composting. Just remember to add a mix of greens (like fruit peels) and browns (like dry leaves) for best results.

• Yard waste: Grass clippings, leaves, and small branches are great additions.
• Kitchen scraps: Fruit and vegetable peels, coffee grounds, and eggshells work well.
• Avoid: Meat, dairy, oily foods, and pet waste, as these can attract pests and slow down composting.

Mixing a variety of materials helps create nutrient-rich compost. Always check your bin's instructions for any specific guidelines.

Turning your compost bin every few days can help speed up the composting process. For most rotating bins, spinning the chamber 2-3 times a week is a good starting point. This helps mix the materials and adds oxygen, which is important for breaking everything down. If you notice the compost is too wet or smells bad, turning it more often can help. Adjust the frequency based on how quickly your materials are decomposing and the weather conditions in your area.

Dual chamber compost bins offer flexibility by letting you compost in batches. While one side is finishing, you can start adding new materials to the other. This setup can help you have a steady supply of compost, since you don't have to wait for one batch to finish before starting another. It's especially handy if you have a lot of yard waste or kitchen scraps. The best choice depends on your composting needs and how much material you generate.

• Balance materials: Add both greens (like food scraps) and browns (like dry leaves) to keep odors down.
• Turn regularly: Spinning the bin helps air things out and prevents smells.
• Avoid adding: Meat, dairy, and oily foods, as these can cause strong odors.
• Check moisture: If the compost is too wet, add more dry materials to absorb excess moisture.

Following these tips can help keep your compost bin fresh and easy to use.
