App-controlled outlets connect to your home Wi-Fi and let you manage plugged-in devices from your smartphone or tablet. After plugging in the outlet, you download the compatible app and follow setup instructions. Once connected, you can turn appliances on or off, set schedules, or monitor usage remotely. Many outlets also support voice control with smart assistants.

• Wi-Fi connection is required for remote access.
• Apps often offer timers and automation features.
• Check compatibility with your phone and home network before purchasing.

This setup can make everyday tasks more convenient and help you manage energy use.

Some app-controlled outlets are designed for outdoor use, but it's important to check for weatherproof ratings like IP64 or IP66. Outdoor smart plugs typically have protective covers and are built to withstand rain and dust.

• Always follow manufacturer guidelines for installation.
• Use only outlets labeled as outdoor or waterproof.
• Keep plugs away from standing water and extreme temperatures.

Using the right outlet can help automate outdoor lights or garden devices safely and efficiently.

Many app-controlled outlets work directly with your Wi-Fi and don't require a separate hub. You simply connect the outlet to your network and use the app for control. However, some products may offer enhanced features or compatibility with smart home ecosystems if used with a hub.

• Check product details for hub requirements.
• Wi-Fi-only outlets are generally easier to set up.
• Hubs can add extra automation options for advanced users.

Choosing the right setup depends on your home and how you want to control your devices.

Most app-controlled outlets let you create custom schedules through their mobile app. You can set specific times for devices to turn on or off, helping automate routines like morning coffee or evening lights.

• Open the app and look for scheduling or timer features.
• Set start and end times for each device.
• Adjust schedules as needed for holidays or changes in routine.

Scheduling can help save energy and make your home more efficient without manual effort.

Before connecting heavy appliances to app-controlled outlets, review the outlet's maximum wattage and amperage ratings. Most smart plugs are suitable for standard household devices, but larger appliances may require outlets with higher capacity.

• Check the appliance's power requirements.
• Compare with the outlet's specifications (often listed on the packaging or in the manual).
• Never exceed the rated limits to avoid overheating or damage.
