We had searched and searched for a decent hunting roleplay set for my kids for a few years. Each time Christmas would come my father would ask me to help him find a toy for the kids that taught hunting and outdoor skills. We tried Bass Pro and Cabela's with no luck in finding a set that really was nice and was geared towards children and tweens. I was excited to see that this roleplay set had it all. The hat, the vest, compass, canteen, knife, and shotgun with shells. The hat and vest come in the traditional bright hunting orange with pheasants flying in small detail. I was happy to see that the hat and vest fit both my four year old and my nine year old. Both are made in a lightweight strong material with velcro straps on the vest to keep it on and closed. The compass was fun to have in the set since both my kids wanted to know all about it and how a real compass works. As we used our imaginations to find our way through the woods (the living room) the compass always helped us find our way back to camp (the couch). The canteen also added to the roleplay as we had been hiking for awhile through the woods (hallway) and needed pretend water along the way. The shotgun and shells/bullets is by far the most exciting part of the set. The kids loved putting the shells in and out and learning how to load and fire at targets. The kids even used their building toys to create fake birds to shoot as if they were really out bird hunting. The real life sounds the gun makes added to action of play. Once we shot the bird our pretend hunting dog found it in the woods for us and we used the knife to help with cooking our meal over the imaginative open fire. With so much in the news about guns and gun safety, I am grateful to have this roleplay set to talk about gun safety and being a respectable hunter/sportsperson with my children. Values that have been instilled in me since I was a child hunting with my father. Having this set has brought back so many of the greatest memories of being outdoors and a tradition in the family that I want my children to know about. Overall, I give this set five stars since it has everything needed for your kids to go on a hunt themselves.
