I have 3 cats 2 dogs I only have to refill about every 2 days or add as necessary I clean once a week. Salivas builds up no fault of the filter just a lot of mouths Because all my animals are male. ( especially the cats) they are subject to urinary tract problems. My Cats have never drank from the sink, I have country water, I don't drink it so they should not have to ! I like the fountain I just wish the instruction book was a little more in-depth. I just found that the clear fountain head pops apart after cleaning it for several months, and the pump comes apart. Supplies are available such as filters, and replacement pumps, etc by using the "Model %23 WF290 3.2L Double Fountain" at a different Vendor.
