I have owned several trash cans that automatically open but this one tops them all. The best thing is the dog has not figured out how to make it open. The lid is made so there is no way for a nose or paw to open it. It need a little force to open it with your foot and will close by itself. Since you use your foot to open it you don't have to hold your hand over the switch to open it when you have something dripping in your hand. It has an opening that is larger than any of the other ones I have had. There is a basket inside that can be lifted out to empty. Plastic trash bags are available that fit the inside basket. On the outside there is a slot in the back in case you want to lift it with one hand or one on each side if you want to lift with two hands. It is really beautiful, well made and would go well in any type of kitchen.
