Box frames are commonly referred to as shadow box frames, 3D box frames, or simply deep box frames. These frames are designed with extra depth, allowing you to display three-dimensional objects like dried flowers, medals, keepsakes, or craft projects. You might also see terms like memory box or display case used interchangeably. The main feature is their ability to showcase items in a way that standard picture frames can't, making them popular for home decor and personalized gifts.

Creating your own box frame can be a fun DIY project! Here’s a simple overview:

• Choose a sturdy wood or acrylic for the frame and backing.
• Cut the pieces to your desired size and depth.
• Assemble the frame, securing corners with glue or small nails.
• Add a glass or acrylic front for protection.
• Attach a backing board, which can be linen or cork for pinning items.
• Finish with hanging hardware or a stand.

DIY box frames let you customize the look and size, but be sure to use safe materials and tools. Results can vary based on your skill level and available supplies.

Whether making your own box frame is less expensive depends on the materials, tools, and time you invest. DIY frames can save money if you already have supplies and enjoy crafting, but buying a ready-made shadow box from Walmart is often more convenient and ensures a professional finish. Consider factors like durability, size options, and your comfort with DIY projects. Both approaches have their benefits, so it comes down to your priorities and resources.

Walmart offers a wide selection of shadow box frames and 3D box frames in various sizes and styles. While fully custom-made options may not be available, you’ll find fillable frames, deep display cases, and memory boxes that can be personalized with your own items. Many frames come with features like push pins, linen backing, or hinged doors to help you create a unique display. Check the product details for customization options and see what fits your project best.
