Hold the pole of the dustpan in your hand and lightly step on the dustpan with one foot. With a slight force on the foot, lift the hand holding the pole while tilting it forward. Lift the pole upward until the dustpan will stay upright. Place the metal part of the broom into the clip on the dustpan.

There are broom / dustpan combos that look very similar. They are nowhere close to the quality as Tiumso brand. I received one as a gift two years ago. I gave two of them as gifts this years.
