Digital Thermometer
We love smoking and grill our own meat. You can't beat the range and quality of the Maverick. We're tried several different ones too. Most don't have the range this one has. We can monitor the meat temperature from inside the house. The alarms are a nice touch for reaching the specified temperature or monitoring a walk in cooler.

Must Have Equipment for Smoking food
This a must have piece of gear for anyone who smokes meat on a regular basis and cannot spend all day (and/or night) sitting by the smoker. This allows you to monitor smoker temperature and food temperature and to set alarms for too high and too low smoker and food temperatures. It works well longer distances into the house and the neighbor's yard. I can't think of any improvements I would make. I've had mine for several years now and bought the latest one for my son.
