This bookcase is better than we expected. Assembly was fairly straightforward and took about an hour and a half. Some of that time was spent scrubbing off bits of styrofoam that had sort of ground into the product from its packing and transport -- that was about the only disappointing thing about the product. All the front-facing surfaces on the front of the bookcase are actual solid wood (oak) and pretty much all the other visible surfaces are a thin veneer of oak over some sort of particle board and they all look quite nice. We purchased "dry oak" and the color was a nice medium tan -- pretty much as you see on the web page. The "cheapest" looking part of the product is the back, but it it still looks good from the frontal view, and you never really see it anyway with books in it. This is not an all solid wood bookcase, but I would imagine a solid-wood oak bookcase of this size would probably cost about 500 dollars. So, if you're hoping to purchase a very nice looking oak bookcase constructed of some solid woods and some veneers, then I believe you'll find this to be a great option for a great price. Also, we found what we were pretty sure was the same exact product on other websites priced a good bit higher. Thanks, Sam's Club, for providing this bookcase at this price!
