I had an air freshener designed to hang from something that I first used in my garbage can so I could close the lid without the smell getting bad. Unfortunately, since it was designed to hang from something, even the package tape I used wouldn't hold it too long. I looked online for another air freshener for trash cans, found this and decided to try it. For the most part, it works very well! (I'm embarrassed to say that I didn't realize at first that you have to "unscrew" them a bit for them to release the scent. Until I discovered that, I kept wondering why they weren't working! Once I "screwed" them open, they worked very well!) If my garbage is smelling especially bad, it doesn't completely take care of the odor, but most of the time it works great!
