The instructions say to load the refrigerator slowly once it comes to the temperature you want. That way it won't overwhelm the compressor. Of course my husband loaded the whole thing at once and we were afraid that we would burn out the compressor. It worked continuously for many hours and the top was hot. BUT - finally the compressor stopped working overtime and it's been working great. So happy with this purchase.
