Worked great for what I ordered it for!

My girls wanted to have pizza hot pockets for dinner with ham radio and friends. I remembered having one of these when I was a kid, so I ordered this one, expecting a 30% chance of failure based on reviews of this one and several other brands. I was pleased to find that this unit worked quite well, despite the very cheap look and feel. I'm not sure how long it will hold up, but it performed great tonight and brought a lot of joy for the kids and myself! We made pizza %26 ham/cheese pocket sandwiches. I quickly discovered "Do not" butter the bread, as instructed, or you'll get soggy sandwiches. Brush tray pockets w/ olv oil or butter when unit is up to temp (green light turns off). Have sandwiches ready ahead of time, then place on tray and close lid. Heat for 3 to 5 min. No pizza sauce, no problem. Mix 1/2 to 3/4 c plain spaghetti sauce w 4 Tbs Tomato paste. ~ 1 Tbs garlic powder, ~ 1 1/2 tsp onion powder, ~ 1 1/2 tsp red pepper flakes, all according to your liking. (see pics) No need to load up the toppings. Spread a little sauce, 3-5 pepperoni , and a bit of mozzarella cheese, a shown. It was perfect, no spilling out, an so delightful, I had to have 2! I made 22 sandwiches (2 loaves of bread). The unit handled it like a champ. I simply wiped the trays w/ paper towel after each set, unplugging only when I had to get more sandwiches ready. I used a cloth with a couple drops of dishsoap to wash trays before %26 after use. This was emphasized in the instructions. Over filling could be an issue. Anything spilling under the trays could be a real problem and could cause the unit to fail or be unsafe to use again due to the lack of protection of the heating elements. Handle with care and the unit may last awhile. I'm not expecting more than a few months based on how cheap it feels, but maybe it will surprise me. Regardless, it brought joy for way less than the cost of going out so I'm happy either way. My husband really likes panini's, so I took a chance with the changeable plates. We already have a different waffle maker, so I don't need that feature, which seems to be the biggest complaint, based on the reviews.

Not up to exceptions.

I didn't find that the top plate cooked as well as the bottom plate. Also, there is a gap at the back where Non-Stick spray and spill over could not be reached to clean fearing the heat could cause a fire. Lastly, the plate coating was really very much not a non-stick surface as my waffles would stick and need to be pried out. I returned it.

Not for waffles

The product works if you are not concerned with the waffle piece of it. It does not make the deep pockets to hold syrup and butter like you want from a true waffle this is more like a pancake the waffle is very thin. A little disappointing since we bought it to make waffles.
