I had purched one of these and then returned it because I thought that it was too wide. The daycare facility that my husband goes to said that they had purchased one and it was working great. I ordered another one. I use a sit to stand lift for my husband and I put this on the toilet seat and then just lower him down over it. It works great and isn't too wide. I would not try to put it on the seat once he is seated because I think that it would be uncomfortable. It could be narrower but works like it is.
