Amazing for the price

I received this product at no cost as a Spark reviewer. The Gerber Prodigy knife is quite impressive. I'm something of a knife collector and I've had knives from every price point and this is a quality knife at a great price. The 420 HC (high carbon) steel is about as tough as you'll ever see a knife at and still be able to sharpen with conventional tools. This is more the type of material you'd see in a quality machete or even a chisel. The full plain edge is great for a lot of work. There is a serrated version but those are problematic to sharpen so I much prefer this. The knife is full tang and the textured handle is very comfortable. I would actually prefer a more aggressive texture but that can become uncomfortable during use. The rubber handle could probably be stippled a bit to add some more texture if desired. On the end of the handle is what I assume is the end of the tang which is textured for use as a small hammer and it also has a hole in it to serve as a lanyard loop. The blade is about 4.75” and the overall length is 9.75”. At the spine the knife is about 3/16“ thick which is entering machete territory. The thoughtful inclusion of the sheath is appreciated, especially when it's a really good sheath. The sheath is a quality injection molded plastic with excellent retention. It also has the added retention of two snapped straps. The MOLLE compatibility means it's easy to add the knife to a piece of gear like a vest or backpack. It's nice to be able to put it on the outside of MOLLE bag and not need to carry it on your person but also still have reasonably quick access to it. It's a lot for the listed price at the time of this review of $49.74. If you're the type of person who actually needs a knife like this, you're good to go here. It's also cheap enough to buy just because it looks cool. This is a lot for the money, especially including the sheath.

MADE IN AMERICA

Nice fixed blade knife. This Gerber knife is razor shop straight out of the package. It's the first new knife I ever got that was sharp enough right out of the package, to shave hair off, effortlessly. The knife is heavy duty and locks into the sheath even without the two handle straps attached. The sheath also can be attached to any molly pack as pictured below with this review.

Purchase this knife!

I collect knives. Not being a wealthy man, I don't waste my time on knives that cost $100's of dollars. I focus on tried and true, well constructed, good, solid knives that won't let you down when you need them. The blade on this Gerber Prodigy is 4 3/4" in length, and is a "Drop Point" style, and is 3/16" in thickness at the spine. Overall length is just a tad over 9 1/2" (9 9/16" to be exact) It is also 420 High Carbon (HC) stainless steel. It is also full tang- one continuous piece of solid steel from the tip of the blade, all the way to the pommel at the very end. The pommel is a handy feature, and can be used for many things... breaking glass, cracking open walnuts or pecans... and also as a very persuasive self defense tool in and of itself. Ergonomically, the knife felt great in my hand. It was very comfortable to hold, with an over-molded "rubber" type of grip. I was very impressed with this knife. It's extremely rugged and very sharp right out of the box. The overall size of the knife is just right, in my opinion. It's not so large that it's difficult to wield around, yet plenty large to get the job done. It's an excellent survival/ field craft/ camping knife. Mine came with, not one, but TWO sheaths. One is your standard polymer of 'Kydex' type sheath, and holds the knife very securely. The second was a standard type nylon sheath, black in color. I would have to hunt for something to complain about with this knife- or with either sheath. Suffice to say, I'm very, very impressed! Keep 'em comin' Gerber!
