I got this just to provide a barrier and stop my dogs from going upstairs when we're not home. It dies lock so that you can't just push it in and have it unroll. It works great for us. If you had a dogor child that was determined or did more than just push against it, like dig or really lean into it, I'm not sure it would be the best option. The price, look, and function are great for us, and the fact that it just discreetly rolls up to the side instead of having a bulky gate always there is a major plus.
