Audio-Technica M-Series ATH-M40x Professional Monitor Headphones (Black)

First off, I use these headphones hooked into my Denon home A/V stereo receiver to listen totally to my immense collection of music CD's. The sound as others have indicated is flat meaning non-coloring of frequencies and as some would also call it (high definition). I also have Sony headphones which give (much more bass) and that warm sound, but not the entire spectrum of detailed sound. So if you prefer the as if you were there feeling and that listening live studio sound these are well worth it considering the price range. Just remember everyone has different shall we say listening

This is one solid pair of headphones. Let not the price undermine the quality of these. I'd describe the sound to be 'neutral' without any more words, just the way Audio Technica describe them. The Bass is clear and punchy, never boomy. Sub-bass present but not great. Mids are very detailed with extremely good dynamic range for both male and female vocals. They may feel a little recessed, just a little but again very natural. Treble is sparkly but not irritating. Soundstage is very good for the price and resolution is fantastic. Finally I'd praise them for their tonality for how natural and accurate they feel without any muddiness across the spectrum. I'd recommend these for monitoring and non-fatiguing listening for several hours. The M50 may be little bass and treble heavy compared to these. Somebody who wants versatile headphones for a variety of musical genres, that too on a budget, look no further!!
