I usually buy new pillows once a year. In between I wash them every so often. This time I washed them but thought I would do more to protect from sweating or spilling. I chose these covers they are water resistant and made of very nice material. They are soft and don't feel like or sound like plastic while lying on them. They are nice. I just put my pillow case over them. I can wash them as often as I wassh the sheets and cases. I do reccomend them. I may buy more. Good for college dorms also. Could actually take when traveling and use in hotels. Price was right also.
