In S -video the signal is separated into two components hence the term Separate Video or S-video. Two 75 ohm coaxial cables are used to transmit the two component signals. One of the coaxial cable carries the Luma (brightness or Y component) while the second 75 ohm coaxial cable carries the chroma (color or C component). S-video provides a sharper image than composite video because it separates the video signal into two components while composite video utilizes only one coaxial cable to transmit both signals.
S-video cables are typically used with DVD players, S-VHS VCRs, and Digital Satellite Receivers. Pleases note that S-video cable will only transmit video, separate audio cables will be needed.
