Really good Optical Spot for the price!

For the price, this is the best optical spot I've been able to find. Key things that aren't available on some others: 1. It has the ability to use internal "flags" to shape the light. This means you can make the shape of a "doorway" light on a model, or light the label of a product. Key thing most don't have.2. Compatible with the iris (although out of stock at the moment), which makes the spotlight circle smaller. Obvious advantages.3. Capability to use both the gobo and the flags at the same time. I assume that the iris would work with the flags as well, not sure about gobo plus iris (doubt it).One drawback is the amount of gobos available, however, I'm looking around for gobos of similar size to use. Overall, a very good optical spot, doesn't heat up with my lights (AD600, AD400, etc.), not sure if you use continuous light if it will heat up, but at least the lens is pretty far from the mounting point, so I doubt it would be an issue. The throw on the focus is super long, but once you get there it's pretty good. I've had a different brand of optical spot, and this worked fine without having to search through a manual.

Seller Verified Purchase

Full Featured and Flawed

It does a pretty good job and is fairly compact. My main issue is with the lenses. The focusing mechanism is too stiff and takes MANY rotations to go from close to far focus. It would have been more convenient if they had a much looser short focus throw or a slide focus mechanism. The problem with the focus stiffness is that often when focusing, the gobo rotation mechanism rotates with the lens. Additionally the lenses project some mild haloing around the main light circle. It's a very sleek, compact and full featured snoot. The fact that it has shutters and a gobo rotation mechanism is excellent. All they need to do is redesign the lenses. Thankfully that's possible since the unit has an EF mount
