Jack post for patio awning.

I am not a construction person, but felt that this jack post would work to help hold up my awning. The edge post and 2x6's have started to weather and rot. It allowed the awning to start to drop about two inches. The jack post allowed it to go back into place until I can get funds and someone to assist in securing the end post and awning.

Hefty Construction and Quick Service

I took apart a wall to install a pocket door, and found that a double stud that needed to be removed was supporting a beam in the ceiling. I installed an LVL header beam, but the load was now being taken on either side by a double 2x10 floor joist about 3.5 feet from the center beam of the house. I dug 2 footers on each side in the crawl space, "poured" reinforced concrete (many buckets of dirt out, concrete in), placed a 1/4" steel plate on the footer after it cured, and an Ellis ST23 shore on each. A 5" steel I-beam was hoisted on top of the shores, and raised to support the floor joists. I appreciated the hefty construction of the Ellis Manufacturing shores, and the quick service in obtaining them.

Floor joist had started to sag

The previous home owners had upgraded the kitchen with New Cabinets, Granite Countertops and Tile Floors. Adding more weight to the area without adding the proper support over a 14’ span. Subsequently the floor joist had started to sag after 10+ years. With the help of 5 Ellis jack posts and a 24’ beam, the kitchen is now back to the proper height. Thank You Ellis MFG!
