The intermediate gear is a replacement part that was made by Hayward. The same high-quality materials were used to manufacture the original factory part. Making this a genuine OEM product.
This intermediate gear is the second link in a chain of gears and shafts. Its purpose is to transfer the rotating power that comes from the spindle gear connected to the spindle gear bushing and medium turbine gear and then ultimately from the medium turbine itself.
This part is black and works in conjunction with the intermediate gear shaft which helps hold the gear in place and allows it the freedom to rotate with ease. This gear is made from a strong and durable plastic yet is not indestructible and can wear over the length of time and use of the cleaner. At some point, it will need to be replaced if it starts to affect the cleaning capabilities of the cleaner. Checking these gears periodically and replacing them when worn will help prevent these issues.
