I almost didn't buy this...
The reviews were pretty mixed and said how hard to put together, bad instructions, parts didn't fit, etc. I let it sit on my living room floor for days before daring to open it. It is heavy! I am 74 years, female, with bad knees, spinal stenosis, and 6 weeks out from a broken (left) wrist. It took me about a half day to assemble because of my issues but I found it very easy to put together, the instructions were great, very easy to follow if you just think about them, and it went together perfectly. It's not fine furniture for that price but it is a beautiful addition to my office. I love it! Now if I can only get someone to lift the thing onto my lovely (fine furniture) filing cabinet....

Solid HORIZONTAL for GREAT Price!
I purchased two 48x48 horizontal bookshelves to ensure enough wall space for paintings on top. It is not easy to find horizontal bookshelves, unless they are antique or have a specific furniture “style” and cost in excess of $2,000. I spent weeks looking on line and in antique and furniture stores before I decided on these. I must admit these shelves are my first Sam’s Club purchase and I was a little concerned. They arrived perfectly packed, are heavy/solid, easy to build (as long as you read and follow directions carefully). The fact that they have no particular furniture “style” allowed them to fit in with very high quality deep reddish/purple solid and expensive cherry desk and office furniture without clashing. They are not “perfectly” finished as a $2000 “fine furniture” bookshelf would be, but unless one is inspecting them in detail the few and very small areas of finish or sanding imperfections are not noticeable and for approximately $200, it’s a great deal!
