I always use a bag. This vacuum has great suction and is very light. You can carry it around by the handle and use the wand to get cobwebs up high and go behind furniture. Just bought this as a gift but I have had one for years and it is still going strong. I highly recommend this product.

Get one with a cartridge filter instead
It has very good suction and works really well in that area only. I don't like it because it does not use a cartridge filter - instead it uses a foam sleeve and filter paper you wrap around it and is held in place with a plastic ring you just slip over it. When you vacuum fine dust it blows out the the other side of the vacuum and covers everything with a fine coating of the dust. And I mean everything, even in other rooms from the one you are vacuuming. Maybe its just me but I don't understand why anyone would design a filter system so inconvenient and prone to allowing bypass of particles so the living environment and people's lungs are compromised and is also just a pain to deal with changing out the filters in general. I did not see the dust blowing out until I was in front of a window and the sunlight streaming through showed the dust blowing out all over. By then it was too late. I spent hours cleaning the dust off of everything in my house after using this vacuum for 15 minutes. I need to buy some other product because this one does not work well for me.
