My Newfoundland didn't mind it

I was a bit cautious about trimming my Newfoundland's toenails as they are black and the quick not easily seen. The price was right on this Oster and the reviews were good so I thought I would try it. I have re-chargeable AA batteries so I loaded them in on the day I bought it and a few times a day, I would turn it on and bring it near her - at the low and high speeds - so she would get used to the sound. On the third day or so, I took her for a long walk and while she was tired out, my wife and positioned ourselves to hold her down for the trimming. Didn't really need to. She just laid there while I went to work. Inserted each toenail in the largest hole for a couple of seconds and it did a great job. Went through each foot in no time and at worst, she pulled her foot back a few times because she doesn't like her feet touched too much. No problems. Went so well we used it on the beagle. She was a bit more skittish but no problem at all. Worked great.

Safe nail trimmer for chihuahua

My chihuahua is only six pounds. She does not like anyone to touch her paws or nails. I have taken her to vets and grooming salons for nail trim and have found the workers to be too rough with her. And it costs about twenty dollars to get a good trim. So, I bought this pet nail grinder because it has a safety guard on it. Only the tip of the nail touches the grinder. I spent some time with my chihuahua to make friends with the grinder by giving her treats every time I turned on the grinder or brought it close to her. The next day she let me grind her nails. It only takes two or three seconds per nail. Using nail clippers did not work well because I could not see where the quick was and it put me on edge because I was afraid of hurting her. I am pleased to find this product that does a good job and is reasonably priced.

Great little trimmer!

We bought this to replace a 'peticure' which broke down after just a few uses. This Oster one is much quieter, gentler, and easier to maneuver around the dog's paws as it has a much nicer sized and shaped nail guard. I would recommend this product. Our GSD mix's nails are very hard and thick, but this product trims them very nicely and, I have to say, quicker than the peticure ever did. We use the grinding stone alone, and this seems to do the job well on its own. The discs may be a little harsh for most dogs, but they are handy to have in case your dog's nails are extra tough. It does exactly what it says it will do, which is a rare thing in today's market for anything. Still waiting to see how many uses it stands up to, compared to the peticure, but so far so good :)
