The model 500 bypass humidifier is ideal for smaller homes. The unit delivers 12 gallons of moisture per day. Model 500 humidifiers can be plumbed to hot water to improve efficiency in heat pump applications. The 500 includes an automatic digital control that delivers the correct level of humidity based on indoor and outdoor temperatures. AprilAire introduced the first evaporative humidifier for forced air furnace systems back in 1954. Since that time, AprilAire continues to lead the industry in whole home humidification systems. Our evaporative humidifiers work by piping water into the distribution tray located at the top of the humidifier. The water is uniformly distributed across the width of the tray and through a scientifically designed system of outlets. It flows by gravity over the Water Panel evaporator. Dry, hot air from the HVAC system is moved through the moisture-laden Water Panel evaporator. Natural evaporation takes place, the water is turned to vapor, and the humidified air is circulated throughout your home. Poor installation instructions but good product.
The unit works well, but I give it two stars because the manufacturer was too lazy to put together a decent set of installation instructions. The given instructions are combined with instructions for 18 other models. Manual, automatic, etc. all share instructions so most of the information doesn’t pertain to the unit you’re actually installing. Even the separate instructions for the thermostat were shared with other model thermostats. It took me all weekend to install and troubleshoot because of the poor instructions. They must want you to hire a professional to install it, but I got quoted $550 to install a product that costs less than $200. Usually I do well with DIY projects but better instructions especially for wiring this would have been appreciated. Also you’ll have to buy multiple types of wire, wire nuts, tubing, and watch tons of YouTube videos to figure out how to hook up the transformer since they couldn’t give you a simple cord. Now that I finally got it working it seems to work well as described.
