The mesh panels material is great for working out and the zipper pocket makes it easier for him to keep up with keys at the gym. My husband has no problem with chafing when wearing these to the gym. these shorts feel very soft and a little stretchy but not that usual thin dry fit like material. They are thicker so won't be as cool when working out, but look much better in my opinion so it's worth it. I like the zipper back pocket as well to keep my wallet safe while not working out
