Focus 1915 Dynamic Single Edge Safety Razor, R48-7 EVO

I have used this razor for 3 shaves so far including one head shave. The razor is mild (which is good) and the head pivots (which is also good especially when head shaving in hard to reach places at the back of your head). It is made well, out of CNC aluminum and everything looks very nicely made. The shave was smooth and comfortable with no nicks or cuts - the head shave a bit less so as it was difficult to keep the right cutting angle inspite of the pivoting head. For the head shave I had to go over the same spot several times and in the end I finished up by using a cartridge razor. The face shaves are nowhere as close as one can get using a regular DE razor. You may well ask, why only 3 stars - well the reason is the loading and unloading of the half razor blade. There are no magnets to hold the half blade in place (BTW - Focus recommends snapping a blade in half and not using pre-cut half blades) - so it is a fiddly job placing the half blade just so - and then you have to align the top half of the head with the two holes in the bottom half and slide it across to lock it in place. All the time you have to be careful that you don't let your finger slip otherwise you might just get a nasty cut. It took quite a bit of effort to both load and unload the blade and I used a thick towel and finally the edge of a nail cutter to push the head off the base. Focus really needs to do something to make this process easier - this sliding lock process will eventually loosen with use and then the blade could be at different angles while shaving (which is not good). The Pearl single edge razor or the new Natu single edge razor (both of which I have) make the loading and unloading much easier and are very similar to the Focus in shape and design and feel.
