Not too soft, not too hard. Great neck support for back sleeping, and fine for side sleeping. The cover is a very nice, durable navy fabric, with a zipper. You could take this anywhere and it would not look like a "bed pillow". The foam is supportive and gives a little bit, not too much. I like it!
