This does look or feel like your average blow up mattress. The mattress is flat across so you get the full width of the bed. It's raised slightly had the head of the bed so you can lay your pillows on the bed and they are propped up a bit. The best part by far though is that the pump to add or remove air is actually built inside the mattress. I purchased this item, a blow up bed with built in air pump for my daughter's visit. She is a "big" girl and the air pump was invaluable in that she could add or delete a bit of air to get her own ,"comfort zone". She says it was super comfortable and I like that I can store the deflated bed easily in its bag. I will be using this again and a friend has asked if she can borrow it for a guest she has coming to visit. I am happy to lend her such a great extra bed.
