My 7 year old loves this so much. I know its just a glorified griddle. However, the non burn edges and perfect pancake recipe for the squeeze bottles made my kids beg me to let them cook pancakes every weekend. If you don't mind ingesting a lot of food coloring and pancake "oops" then by all means let them cook. (make sure you use the blender for mixing. Lumps = frustration.)

I bought this griddle a little over a year ago and we still have lots of fun with it... well, my girls mainly as I am not “allowed” to touch it. My girls (almost 6 and 10) love competing by creating and copying each other's pancake masterpieces. They can be at it for over 2 hours straight. I end up eating most of their creations and get full for the rest of the day lol. Griddle heats up evenly and very easy to clean. It cannot be used on surfaces that are not heat resistant. I place ours on top of the large cutting board on the kitchen counter. The cord is very short but it's not an issue if you have an extension cord. This griddle can be used to make toasts, eggs and grilled cheese but I prefer using it for pancakes only to keep it's surface intact. Keep in mind this is not a toy and full supervision and guidance needed while younglings using it.
