granddaughter made the pizellea for her 8th grade history class. They were studying the 8th century. pizelles were a success and tasted just like what my grandma made,a bit of history . one of the oldest cookies made.

This little pizzelle maker is fantastic! I had bought some cooking spray thinking I would need it but it's Totally non stick! I wish sauce and fry pans were made of the same material. Even the plastic covering is pretty nonstick. If you rubbed a little corn oil on it, it would be totally non stick too. The plates didn't have anything to clean off and the plastic parts with a few drips easily came off with a fingernail scrape. There is a light so you know when it's up to temperature and time to cook. I let it cook a little longer for a little color, maybe 20-30 seconds. As for the recipe in the book, it's ok but needs a little clarification and modification. It calls for baking powder… leave it out or you will have soft pizzelle. Also sift the flour before adding to the mixture. I found it needed a bit more flavoring than called for. If you want citrus ones, use zest in addition to the juice. The flavor tends to evaporate otherwise. Good flavors to make are: citrus fruits, whichever one you like; coconut rum, the alcohol burns off but leaves a great coconut flavor; almond, or plain vanilla. Avoid extracts with the citrus-they don't taste authentic otherwise. Overall this is an excellent product and I will buy the double plate one next time.
