After my gorgeous Italian-made Vev Vigano gold-accented Kontessa pot made for 1-2 espresso cups no longer functioned for lack of replacement 51 mm gaskets, it sits in my kitchen as decor. I tried for years to find gaskets before I gave up. The last three I had were rubber, custom-made and sold on Sweet Maria's website and no longer available. Rubber gaskets do not last long. Silicone is superior but no longer available in 51 mm. I did not want to experiment with making my own. This year, 2026, I saw high praise for a Kontessa now reduced to an art object. I searched again and the smallest gasket for this pot, 52 mm, is the size for the popular fast-heating cheaper bulky aluminum European mocha pots with wooden or plastic handles and which require "seasoning" to prevent the metal from leaching into the liquid. This year I noticed a new pot, made in Japan, stainless steel, made in Japan by this nation of tea-drinkers, named Diego by the maker Easyworkz for 4 espresso cups. The workmanship is excellent and it functions a bit differently inside but the result is the same as the Kontessa. I put away my freeze-dried instant coffee. I am delighted with my new sleek, modern compact pot, its functionality and its appearance.
