Great for planting bulbs or plants.
Haven't actually got to use if for what I purchased it for. But I did test it out to see if it dug into the ground easily. And I was impressed with how easily it made the hole. I do not have a lot of strength in my wrist so I was quite satisfied with the result.
Life Changer
This is a life changer for me! In the past, whenever I've wanted to plant bulbs (which is most autumns), I have had to beg my husband to come out with his drill. He drills holes in the dirt, and I drop a bulb in each. It's always difficult to find a time when he is available and willing to help, but I do it because in our clay soil it's too hard for me to dig holes with my little trowel. When I first got this, I didn't know how it worked. I looked up "bulb planter how to use" and found a 45-second video. It's easy! I went out and used it successfully. Wow, does it work well. You just push it into the soil where you want to plant the bulb (it went into even our clay soil easily). There are measurements on the side making it easy to know how far down to go. When you have done that, pull it out. The planter will hold onto the soil and leave a perfect hole for you to drop the bulb into. Then, squeeze the top together, and the soil plug will drop, filling in the hole again. So easy. I wish I hadn't waited so many years to discover this tool. I'll use it over and over.
Great Bulb Planter
I have the Expert Gardener Adjustable Bulb Planter made by Formosa Tools. This bulb planter has depth markers on it. It has markings for one inch, two inch, three inch, and four inch. Additionally, it has markings from one to ten centimeters. This bulb planter is constructed of reinforced steel. It has an adjustable handle that is hinged. It also features a soil release mechanism that is operated by pushing the thumb button into the ergonomic handle causing the soil to fall back into the hole where the bulb is planted. In the event you are working with harder ground, this planter has reinforced chrome plated steel that prevents the tool from bending and allows for quicker planting. I have never used a bulb planter so the first issue I had when this arrived was that there were no instructions. Since I was truly clueless I had to google the proper way to use one before I could try it out. Turns out it is very simple to use and does make bulb planting much easier. Anyone that is a frequent bulb planter would benefit from this tool. The tool itself is about 9.25" tall. The handle is about 4.5" wide.
