Vast improvement

I had a grind and brew coffee maker before but with the blade and cup to chop the beans it required a lot of cleaning all the time. This new version with burr grind is great. Fill the water chamber with water and the bean bin with coffee, a filter in the brew chamber and off you go! Don't have to measure coffee for each brew just set the number of cups and the strength of the coffee desired and the coffee maker does the rest with great results. Also, it can still be programmed to have perfect coffee waiting when you wake up.

Cuisinart burr grind and brew

We noticed the deeper richer flavor of ground beans with the first use. Burr grinding is definitely the way to go. Some have complained about the noise but we found this was no louder than the mechanical grind we had. We are very satisfied with this machine and anyone who is a coffee bean snob and switching to this Cuisinart burr machine will be very happy with it. Side note, I clean the residue of grounds from around the burr grinder and brush them down the chute after every use, I know this will prolong the life of the machine and does not take any time at all. For the price it is wise to take care of the machine to keep it working well for a very long time.

Getting harder to find

My wife and love this model of coffee maker. It makes fresh, fresh, fresh (did I say fresh) coffee in the morning. For some reason, they are getting harder to find than they were 10 years ago when we bought the first one. PROS: Sturdy, reliable, and you can't beat freshly-ground coffee; automatic timer for those who get up on a schedule; fairly easy to clean, even the deep cleaning that has to be done every 2-3 weeks. Once-a-year blowout with compressed air helps, too. CONS: Had to replace one this monthnbecause the gears that power the grinder started to sound stripped. 3.5 years is a little short of a lifespan for this to happen. There is a cheaper model, the DCC-1200BCH at half the cost --- a good coffee maker, but it doesn't have grind-and-brew.
