Love it!

I have a couple different culinary grade matcha powder from different brands at home, so I was super curious about this Midori Spring matcha powder mainly because I want to know how the authentic Japanese Tencha tastes. I did some readings about Japanese Tencha and Sencha because I honestly was not aware of the difference between these two powdered teas. I read that Tencha which usually refers to the "the true Japanese Matcha", is made from the delicate shade-grown tea leaves. Apparently, the trees are covered in cloth to protect the leaves from light during the several week period before harvest in order to forces the plant to produce more chlorophyll, increases the production of amino acids and gives the leaves a very dark, rich shade of green. Then the leaves are carefully hand-picked, laid flat to dry, stemmed and finely ground into a powder which is then called tencha. Sencha is the most common type of Japanese green tea that is brewed and served on a daily basis in most Japanese homes. The leaves are steamed and rolled soon after they are harvested. The buds and broken leaves of the sencha tea are made into a powder to get a cheaper matcha tea. While tencha has an intense sweetness and incomparable round richness, sencha is quite a bit more intense in flavor and can have a rather tannic and astringent finish compare to tencha. Back to this Midori Spring Culinary Grade Matcha powder; the texture is super fine just like other matcha tea powders in the market. The color is green kinda dull, I mean it obviously is not as green as ceremonial grade matcha tea. I made Starbuck style hot green tea latte, with organic half-and half, a pinch of cinnamon and 1 tsp organic sugar. It tastes great, rich and creamy. Very strong green tea scents and flavor. I am thinking to make some cupcakes later this week, so let's see. Overall, I like this particular matcha powder. Not only because it's authentic tencha, but also because it tastes great. The price is kinda decent for a 100 gr. It's USDA certified organic and vegan, gluten and GMO free, and made in Japan. I tend to like matcha tea powder from Japan than the ones made in China. They taste slightly different. I received this matcha powder free of charge in exchange for my opinion, but I was not required to write a positive review. So, all opinions that I've expressed are based on my experience with this product. Give it a try!

Yum! I love Midori Springs Matcha Tea!!!

First, I must admit, I was a HEAVY coffee drinker until I discovered Midori Spring's Matcha Tea. I was visiting with a friend who was having a cup of hot matcha tea (another brand) and told me about all the health benefits of drinking matcha vs. coffee. I tried a sip of her tea and wasn't sure I liked it because it had kind of a bitter flavor, but went home thinking maybe I should try it, since I have been having issues with coffee staining on my teeth and would love getting health benefits from my morning cup. I went ahead and ordered Midori Spring's ECO Class Organic Culinary Grade Matcha Tea, figuring it had good reviews and sounded like a good choice, being certified organic and vegan. While I was waiting for my matcha to arrive, I did a little research on matcha and learned that Tencha tea from Aichi is known to be better than tea from other areas in Japan. This tea is from that region, so I was happy thinking I made a good choice. I also found that I can mix it kind of like an iced coffee and cook with it, too. When I received my matcha from Midori Spring, I decided to make it my way, first hot frothed and then poured over ice with half and half and a tsp of demorara sugar - and I have to say, I absolutely love, Love, LOVE it! This tea tastes so much better than the one my friend was drinking - very tasty and NOT bitter! The color is a nice shade of green (which I understand is good) and it has a strong and smooth tea flavor. I don't drink coffee anymore and don't miss it. What is interesting is that every day I like it more and more - I actually look forward to having it and can't wait to have my morning matcha! It's been a few weeks now and I am enjoying the benefits of this awesome tea. I used to get stains on my teeth, bad breath, and jitters (especially with my cafe cubano). Now I get smooth taste, ongoing energy, NO stains, much less hazardous breath and the best part, phytonutrients! I received this matcha tea at a discount in exchange for my honest review and I can honestly say, Midori Spring's Matcha tea is awesome! So glad I tried it!

high quality at a very good price.

I have tried this product in a few different ways my favorite is with honey and coconut milk, hot or cold (iced). I am amazed that so little goes so far. I hope all the health benefits are as good as they are reported to be, if they are I will be totally pleased.
