Compared to Miracle Gro potting soil, Black Gold is better. It is very rich and retains alot of moisture. It has a really smooth texture similar to the texture of worm castings and this is good for plants to develop a strong root system. Black Gold also has fertilizer in it.

It's a good thing Walmart has such a great price and delivery time on this soil because I seem to order a lot of it. The problem is that I am at best a so-so gardener and don't do well with growing plants. A friend recommended this potting soil for some herbs that I am planning on growing. She said it will even make up for my lack of horticultural talent. That remains to be seen, but I have at least planted the herbs with the hope that they will actually grow!

It has a pleasant, sweet "earthy" smell. It was easy to work with and it has been over a week since I planted my little balcony garden. All my plants seem to be thriving wonderfully so far.
