Before making this purchase, I read the reviews first. Overall it seemed better than the reviews on the toastmaster burner. I've had burner for 4 months now and it's been great! The only issues I've had was at the very first few days, after burning off the coating on the burner per the included instructions, the top was still a little slick and whatever pan I put on (from stainless steel to cast iron) did slide a little. The other issue is now after 4 months of continuous use, the burner looks like it could be prone to rust. I plan to season it a little in the same way I season my cast iron skillet to see if it helps. Overall, I would recommend this. Just be careful with it- it is extremely hot once heated, so be sure it's placed well before using.

My Ovente single burner cast iron hot plate lost so much power after a few boil-over mishaps that now I have to pour in boiling water to preheat it, put on the lid and wait, wait, wait for the heat to build up slowly. On the plus side, the heat also fades slowly when you turn it off. I like how pans don’t slip around on the rough burner, which isn’t coils but solid. Cord far too short to reach anything so I have to use an extension with a higher-than-usual rating and make sure nothing else is on that circuit.
