Good Knife Good Price

I purchased this knife as a replacement for an identical one I had purchased around the late 70's. My original knife had a misalignment with the clip blade sticking somewhat above the other blades. I have seen pictures of this knife with that same problem, and it may have just been how they were manufactured. This knife arrived in nice box, wrapped in paper. The blades are tight with no lateral play. I like the size as it carries right next to my wallet and doesn't create a big bulge. From the grind of the edges I suspect it is of Chinese origin if that matters to you. The blades are fairly sharp right out of the box, but you can see the grind lines on the edges. A few times over my well worn 400 grit (probably more like 1000 grit by now) silicon carbide paper to polish out the grind marks, and then a good stropping on a hard cork strop loaded with green chrome buffing compound and it was popping hairs on my arm and slicing strips from the edges of newspapers. If you check the internet on sharpening you will see many people demonstrating how sharp a blade is by holding up printer paper and slicing into the edge of it. Newspaper is ever harder to cut.. Carbon steel blades take and hold a nice edge. The only downside is you need to keep them clean. An apple will discolor them in a short time. I like to whittle and wood carve. I use the largest blade to debark sections of small limbs, for roughing in. Then to the clip and spey blades for more detailed work. The tip of the spey blade is handy for gouging out small divots for things like eye sockets, working down the side of the nose on face carvings. And of course the knife is readily available for cutting tape, rope, string, cardboard and the thousands of other things you want a knife for.
