It's strong and it holds back our big year and a half old extra energetic Doberman pinscher.! The gate is sturdy and well-built. READ THE INSTRUCTIONS. When I first pulled the gate from the box, I thought it was missing a piece. It wasn't. The metal structure has built-in spring tension that pulls together when you install it in a doorway. I did not have to install any hardware into the door frame. The jack screws hold the gate securely. The gate latch is a double latch with a pull grip and thumb slide. These individually actuate the upper and lower latch pins. I bought this for my mom to keep her dog out of her bedroom. It is working well for her.
