Meal Delight Dal Makhani, Dal Tadka, Chana Masala, 10 Ounce Variety Pack of 6 Ready to Eat in 90 Seconds No Preservatives, Shelf Stable, No Artificial Colors or Flavors

Meal Delight provided me with this variety pack for review. I'm not expert in Indian dishes but I have enjoyed quite a few over the years. These meat free selections are definitely mild and there is as much 'tang' from the spice mixes as there is heat. I tried each one on a bed of white rice which always cuts the spice level anyways. My favorite is the Chana Masala full of perfectly cooked and textured chickpeas with tomatoes and spices. The Dal Makhani with lentil and kidney beans in a tomato base is very satisfying. The Dal Tadka has yellow lentils in a smooth seasoned tomato sauce. Onion is used in these recipes but it is cooked down. Sodium levels are acceptable. Diced cooked meats could be added to these sauces if you miss them. There were no hard bits or sand in these dishes and you don't need strong teeth to enjoy these. The pouches are easy to heat and serve in their gusseted stand up packaging. It is easy to use just half of a pouch, fold over and clip and refrigerate for later. The use by dates were October 2026 for this batch. Pouches are a good food container but not as long of a shelf life as canned foods. The one thing I have an issue with is the mention of 'no GMOs'. There are no GMO versions of the ingredients used in these and all GMO foods are equally safe as, or better than, organic versions so we need to stop the baseless fear mongering labeling started by the organic foods industry. Our farmers deserve respect, not doubt.

these taste great. heat up fast. for vegetarians, these are perfect. only knock is the sodium content on any packaged/prepared item is so high. over 1000mg sodium in the packet. use less salt!
