One of the bumpers expanded immediately after removing the plastic, while the other took a couple of hours before it fully expanded which was no issue for me because I was expecting them to take awhile to expand anyway. I initially tried using a deep fitting twin sheet but the fit was tight so I decided to use a fitted full size sheet and everything fit so much better and stayed in place. I like that the bumpers come with removable washable covers, which makes cleaning them easy. The bumpers themselves are soft and the perfect height. These are a great option when transitioning into a bigger bed or for a peace of mind knowing your kid isn't going to end up on the floor in the middle of the night.
