I don't need to go past 4 on the heat because it's perfect. I did buy the protection plan because I have gone through 3 blankets in the last 5 years. They all just died on me. If for any reason it does die I can get a replacement within the 3 years it covers it. Overall very pleased with the blanket. I got it in a twin size, perfect for me.
