These jeans are definitely 80's style; high waisted (means tighter at the waist). Yes, you may want to buy a size up. But they will be fitted at the waist. No, the material has little to no stretch - they are retro, real cotton denim, i.e., before fake jeans/jeggins/etc. Exactly what I expected and was looking for.
