Fun winter evening activity

My nine year old and I did this planetarium in about three hours. We enjoyed doing it immensely. It gave us time to talk and visit with each other about all kinds of things as well as space, science, and how things work together. This set is the most stress-free art set I think I have ever put together. Its directions are for the most part clear and simple. In several areas you can do slightly different things from the illustrations without problems because some of the items are interchangeable. The only issue we had involved the paint. You are supposed to mix portions of paint to get the color you desire. You must remember though that you need the base colors to mix and create still other colors. There is glow in the dark paint to place on the mostly finished set. Remember to put this on thickly because we didn't and the glow in the dark really does not work for us. Now that it is finished my son is very proud of it. It is still displayed in our living room and he still rearranges the location of various planets. One reminder which I had to emphasize with my own son, this is not a true to proportion or distance model! it is only a representation of the solar system.

Good for learning.

I remember when I was child and I learned that the earth traveled around the sun and not the other way around. I am making sure that my own children know this fact -- with this set of our solar system. I sure wish I'd had this set when I was teaching, it would have been a big help. The set is basically a simple model of our solar system. The assembly is clear and straightforward. My kids just stacked up the stand, itself, then snapped the two halves of each planet together. They placed each planet on a spinning pole and then placed each pole on a rotating arm. There are instructions and a set of paints to color each planet and the Sun, too. I really like how each of the planets can be moved individually. Once they had it all set up, we talked about the facts included in the booklet about the solar system. It was fun for my kids to engage in making it themselves and also to see how the solar system works. It could even be a good project to make for a science fair or school or homeschool project and it is a fun and educational set.

Wonderful way to learn about our solar system

The solar system is a fantastic, fun educational project. Kids learn and retain information of what they are doing is fun. I know my children have learned alot from building our solar system. We had hours of fun looking up additional information on the internet. My kids enjoyed creating this project amd ask if we could go amd.get more. It refreshing to watch our children take a break from the video games and have fun learning. The assembly was so easy. The base is sturdy, no wobbling. We have set ours up on our mantel and my kids talk about the color system often. They ask questions about the plants and stars. They will be ready for thier Earth Science class. This project made thier learning experience so much fun.
