You'll be disappointed if you expect this to live up to the heritage of the classic RPG it's based on, but if you go into it just looking for a new and fun take on team-based shooters, as I did, there's treasure to be found.
More than almost any other shooter I play online, people communicate with each other and teams work together in this game. And yet multiplayer isn't dominated by clans who play together 24/7 like it is in Rainbow Six, so you can casually come into a match and still get deep into the teamwork of it. That creates a satisfying experience even Gears of War can't duplicate.
Because the magic/tech ability system is very different from most team shooters, it has a steep learning curve. Fortunately, you can get comfortable with it through the strong tutorial and bot skirmishes before trying your stuff online.
The game's biggest weak point is lack of content. There are few maps and only two play modes. The weapons arsenal could have been more fleshed out, too. There's still enough variety to keep it from getting repetitive, though.
Probably the one strongest point for this game is the fact that even though it's been under the radar and a joke among the critics for more than a year, it still has a strong online player community. So you won't feel late to the party if you only just now show up.
