The clasp actually confused me for a minute. If you turn the small metal bar to the right and secure the small rectangle hole over the bottom metal piece, then tuck the turntable lock into place and your purse is now closed. I absolutely love the three colors on this purse! The compartments are perfect for all my small items I carry. My IPhone 11 fits perfect. On the down side I was hoping for a small credit card shelf pocket, there is not one. But there is a single pocket you could slide several cards and cash in, they just would not be organized as it is one slot.
