Key item features

Akon spun off two number one pop hits and one number two from Konvicted, so he couldn't be blamed for working the same tricks on his third album, yet Freedom is a major change of pace -- the kind of drastic switch-up that normally happens after reaching a creative and commercial dead-end. Hip-hop and R&B are all but scrapped entirely. The set instead is rooted in the gleaming synthesizers and spring-loaded dance beats of Euro-pop. (That slamming jail-cell door trademark, deployed as much as ever, doesn't quite have the same alarming effect.) Akon sounds more comfortable than expected, and he reduces the lechery in favor of longing ("I wanna make up right now") and awe ("When I see you, I run out of words to say"). At times, the tensionless backdrops don't inspire Akon to do much with his pen; the chorus of "Beautiful" is basically "You're so beautiful, so damn beautiful," while falling for a stripper in "Against the Grain" is conveyed with "The way she drop down won't allow me to close my drawers." Even so, there's much more charm here than expected. ~ Andy Kellman, All Music Guide

Awesome!

Freedom is an awesome CD, i loved every song on it. He talks about hisself in these songs and his life and i love that bc the beats are great and the lyrics are amazing also. I think Akon deserves alot more recognition then he is getting right now bc he is the only rapper that I know of who rly changed their ways. You go Akon!

Freedom - Edited Version

Akon is one of my favorite artist yet until this CD that I bought from Walmart I simply browsed through the songs online and only downloaded those which did not have any curse words. With Walmart I found I could get the whole thing. I won't say that the CD edit is perfect. There is still some language but I think they had to decide to have a happy medium and leave words like the words, d@mn and A** (if I'm correct they left this word but it is rare to hear it) and cut out the main offensive words only. I was surprised at first but after listening several times I'm OK with their thought. I still get the rough words edited out while getting to hear a few more songs. Some I don't listen to around my kids simply due to the nature of the song if it is abundantly clear but that is to be expected. Overall I am very pleased with the way Walmart handles their Edited CDs and I PRAY that they continue to do so. Other than their versions it is very difficult to find clean versions of songs. Thanks to Walmart for cleaning up music so that I can enjoy it. Others I'm sure hate this but it is a blessing to me and those around me.

Great cd with good songs

I really enjoy this album. I was listening to it on YouTube but wanted to have the hard copy with me to listen to in the car. One of my favorite songs is called Against The Grain. I like the fact that this is a clean album with little to no cursing. I appreciate Wal-Mart for banning foul music.
