I needed a silent flashlight. This is perfect. There are two silver "pads," one on each side of the handle, that must be grasped to make the light come on. That may be a problem for some because when you let it go it fades off in about 3 seconds. You must be holding the flashlight with a normal grip, touching both pads simultaneously for the light to work. For me, no problem. But if you want to turn it on and set it down, nope, it won't work. Your hand is part of the "ON" mechanism.
