Discovery Exploring Oceans Identification & Exploration Activity Kit

My two daughters loved this ocean and exploration kit. This is such a fun kit with a variety of activities to make any kid happy. My kids' two favorite things were excavating the shells out of the sand with the mini rake, and then decorating them with the included stuff. They spent hours doing all the different activities and had a great time. This kit would be a great gift for kids who are hands on learners, or perfect for just a fun day at home.

Exploring Oceans is an educational, fun and curiosity-creating experience to enjoy with your child. This “toy” could also be played independently but the child (and parent!) will gain so much more from it when played together. With my daughter in remote school, she craves hands-on activities that have things she can touch and feel and see in front of her in real life. This was the set to give her that experience! Especially since she has never been to the ocean before. We started with the activity book which guided us through different steps for different things we could enjoy doing. We dumped the sand into a bowl (bowl was not included) and mixed the shells in. Then my daughter used the rake to dig in the sand and find the shells. Once one was found she matched it to the large poster that shows a colored picture of the shell with a description she read. If she was unsure, we could use the magnifying glass to look closer at it and see more details on the shells. We also worked on adding the stickers of shells to the matching identification cards. Both the poster and the other sticker sheet has ocean fish and other ocean life on them to read and talk about. Other activities in the book include painting the shells and creating art out of them. The set includes paint, wiggly eyes, a glue tube and one pipe cleaner. Our favorite part of the set was the memory game. Using ocean life cards you can play a typical game of memory and at the end players take pairs you won by guessing the name of the creature after you read the fun facts from the card. My daughter loved when she guessed the correct creature and was able to add my pair to her pile. I would recommend this set to homeschoolers, remote learners needed something hands-on, and for anyone looking for a curiosity-creating, educational “toy.” The box says for ages 8+ but I would say younger ages too that can read and who have a parent to guide and supervise them.
